To grasp a message, write notes, ask questions, grapple meaning.
We think with our bodies.
Taking notes helps us understand and retain information (especially if we write by hand). If you write on a long document, on a tablet or a printout, you also deal with its message better.
To really understand a message and what it means for you, try to interact with the person who made it. Ask clarifying questions, talking to them if you can, or in writing.
Basically, don’t just listen or read, because the message may not stick. Do something active.
